Chatham County Deed Book D, page 107 2 May1786 This indenture made this 12th day of May in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and eighty six between Joseph Stuart of the county of Chatham and state of North Carolina of the one part and William Hardin of the county and state aforesaid of the other part witnesseth that the said Joseph Stuart for .. 50 pounds in hand... convey unto the said William Hardin … all that … parcel of land lying and being in the county and state aforesaid and Little Brush Creek bounded as follows. Beginning at a hickery on the north side of William Hardin Improvement and running along Thompsons Line west one hundred and eighty three pole to a hickery on Graves corner then west along his line cross said creek one hundred and eighty six pole to a pine thence southt two hundred and fifty two pole to a red oak then east three hundred and sixty nine pole to a post oak then north three hundred and five pole to the first station containing six hundred and firty acres. In witness whereof the sd. Joseph Stuart hath hereunto set his hand and affixed his seal the day and year first above written. /s/ Joseph Stewart Signed and sealed and delivered in presence of William Teague.
